Hierarchy: Explained
In order of highest rank to lowest
Gahlin- The leader of the herd. He or she must not have a mate from the time they begin being leader to the time they end. Therefore, doe leaders cannot have fawns while they lead. Unlike most herds, the Gahlin is elected from the five deer of the elites by the Coronae.
Elites- This group, consisting of a maximum of five deer, guard the herd and advise the Gahlin on his or her decisions. The stags may have their choice of mate, but if they are elected Gahlin, the stag and the doe must not be mates anymore.
Antiquus- The oldest members of the herd; the elders. They are consulted by Coronae for their wisdom. Fawns come to them to listen to stories.
Coronae- Members of the herd. They may fight amongst themselves for dominance and mates.
Incendia- Deer not in the herd, but are considered friends of the herd. They may come and go as they wish.
Laws of the Land
1) Magic is allowed, but never in fights for dominance. Do not misuse the gift that was given to you. 2) Fighting between stags and does is prohibited. 3) Do not turn away an injured fawn. 4) Respect all members of the herd, regardless of whether they are at the same, higher, or lower rank than you. 5) Those who injure or murder another deer in cold blood will be banished. Accipere quam facere praestat injuriam.
Motto
Cogita ante salis- Look before you leap.
